Scandinavia has always been the epicenter of European metal! There's usually a positive correlation between crappy weather, Germanic angst and death metal.
Would be interesting if the Scandinavian-influenced and even crappier-weathered areas of the Upper Midwest also have a disproportionate number of metal bands.
Scandinavia is not famous for death metal, and they are certainly not "germanic"!. Do your homework. Russia has a lot more bands than that. Basically, this map is based on really weak data.

huh. They need to update their lists on that site, because according to the wiki list of bands from Finland, 246+ bands on the list are some sort of Metal bands.
